Ways to Stay Green in a Limited Space

Last updated 1 year ago

Growing your own herbs, produce, and flowers can be a healthy and rewarding hobby. However, if you’re living in a mobile home or other small space, you may feel like you cannot maintain a garden. Luckily, there is a multitude of creative ways to use a patio, balcony, or other small outdoor space to grow plants.

Consider Vertical Structures

You can use an old shoe organizer, wine rack, or similar wall-mounted structure to maximize your space. You can also try mounting rows of small, individual vessels on the wall and discover the possibilities.

Try Repurposing Vessels

Creating a compact garden structure does not need to be expensive. Consider repurposing old mason jars, wine boxes, pots and pans, furniture, coffee mugs, drawers, musical instruments, or any old thing you can fill with dirt! If you don’t have anything around your home, you can visit a local thrift store and get creative.

Fill Your Home with Potted Plants

If you have little to no outdoor space, potted plants indoors can still satisfy your urge to grow plants while keeping your indoor air quality high. Fresh herbs and small citrus trees will make your home smell great, and the resulting fresh foods can enhance any meal.

Save Space with Hanging Plants

Whether indoors or outdoors, hanging plants enhance your space while staying out of your way. Try hanging your herbs in the kitchen to save counter space, or hang flowers on your balcony to add curb appeal to your home.
